The Centre for GeoInformatics (Z_GIS) at Salzburg University is an established international center of competence, active in research and industry cooperation. Z_GIS contributes to instruction and further training in GIS and Remote Sensing through collaborative projects with partners worldwide. IDRISI is being integrated into the UNIGIS Salzburg distance learning program; within this framework, the Salzburg IRC provides educational and technical support to UNIGIS students. In addition, the Z_GIS works with the German language community toward promotion of advanced GIS research based on IDRISI and organizes workshops and conferences to facilitate intensive cooperation.

The Technical University of Zvolen strongly supports the study of geoinformatics. A laboratory of geoinformatics was established in 1995 and IDRISI plays an important role in teaching and research. Mendel University focuses on the use of remote sensing, surveying and GIS in the agricultural, forest, biological, economic and technical sciences. Applications often focus on landscape monitoring and the management of renewable natural resources, particularly forests.
Current activities/offerings include the development of local GIS training and educational materials, IDRISI User Group meetings, and technical assistance. Several degree programs are also offered.

The IRC provides information in Hungary on spatial analysis and IDRISI. Since the College’s foundation, their primary objective has been to offer land-surveyor and land management specialist training courses and degree programs, of which IDRISI is an integral component.
Current activities/offerings include training courses, research activities and the establishment of a UNIGIS distance learning program.
The Hungarian Resource Center is also a Reseller of Clark Labs’ products.

The Italy IDRISI Resource Center (IRC) is a Laboratory of Geomatics (geoLab) within the Universita di Firenze focused on using GIS and remote sensing in diverse application areas. Although forestry is their specialty, they also utilize geographic technologies for other fields, such as meteorology, agriculture, land use change and ecological modeling.
IDRISI is used routinely in course offerings, seminars and Ph.D. research. The IRC also organizes seminars and presentations for other universities, supports workshop and training activities and collaborates with other research institutions.

The GIS Center of the University of Girona, created in 1994, is a technical research center specializing in the processing of geographical information using computer and electronic means (GIS, GPS and Remote Sensing). Its main objective is to promote the use of GIS for academic and research purposes. IDRISI is used extensively in the curriculum of various degree programs at University of Girona. The IRC, since 1999, has also coordinated a UNIGIS distance learning program for GIS.
The Spain IRC provides support to academic personnel, technicians and researchers in the processing of geographical information, collaborates with a variety of governmental and environmental organizations on research and application issues and forges international scientific networks on GIS.
Current activities/offerings include the development of tutorials in Spanish entitled: "Suitability mapping using context and distance operators," and "Remote sensing analysis for flooded areas assessment." These materials can be found at http://www.unigis.es/. The IRC has also translated several IDRISI brochures into Spanish, including Basic Functionalities in IDRISI and What's New in IDRISI Kilimanjaro.
The Department of Geography at the University of Alcala promotes a variety of activities related to research and education. IDRISI is used in the curriculum of several undergraduate and graduate level degree programs. The IRC has also developed a spatial decision support system, LOCALIZA, based on IDRISI and InovaGIS library, for the location of social facilities. The IRC also provides technical and scientific support to Spanish users.

The Switzerland IRC is jointly managed by Dr. Regis Caloz of the Swiss Institute of Technology of Lausanne and Dr. Claude Collet of the University of Fribourg. Both teach and conduct research in GIS and spatial analysis and IDRISI is routinely used in the curriculum of a variety of degree programs. The research focus of the IRC includes geometric transformation, image processing, spatial analysis modeling, change analysis, decision support, development of IDRISI-compatible modules for ortho-rectification, spatial filtering and cell aggregation.
Current activities/offerings include French translation of IDRISI materials, distribution of complementary products and the provision of technical and scientific support to IDRISI users.

Serving the UK GIS Community, the IRC currently offers technical and scientific support to all levels of the academic community from schools to further/higher education, the independent user, government and the commercial sector. IDRISI is also used extensively in the curriculum and research activities.
The IRC focuses on research involving the environmental applications of geospatial technologies, integrated coastal zone management, vegetation and habitat mapping, landscape ecology, and environmental and occupational health.

Northumbria University is the latest home of the first IDRISI Resource Center in the UK, initially set up at Manchester Metropolitan University in 1996. The Resource Center is administered by staff in the Division of Environmental Management and the Centre for Environmental and Spatial Analysis. IDRISI is used in a variety of courses at Northumbria.
Current research efforts include the mapping of tranquility in the English countryside and the monitoring of deforestation and tropical rainforest conditions in Buton, Sulawesi, Indonesia. The change detection, decision making and fuzzy modeling tools found in IDRISI are of particular benefit to these projects.
The IRC offers support on the use of IDRISI and will also provide training sessions.
