Clark Labs Releases New Video Tutorial on Predicting Land Change with IDRISI 6/15/11 Worcester, MA -- Clark Labs is pleased to announce that a new tutorial has been added to the video series on its website. This latest video tutorial, entitled Predicting Land Cover Change with Land Change Modeler, guides the user through the steps involved in change prediction. Land Change Modeler utilizes land cover maps of two dates to evaluate historic changes. These changes can then be related to variables that determine or influence land cover change, in order to extrapolate changes into the future. For instance, if we want to determine the potential of new development, we may consider using variables such as the slope of the terrain, distance to roads, and distance to previously developed land. In its simplest form, the model will determine how the variables influence change, how much change took place between time 1 and time 2, and then use this information to calculate a relative amount of transition for a future date, the vulnerability of the land to experience change, and a prediction scenario of land change. The video is approximately 20 minutes long.
Creating Projects and Setting the Environment Introduction to Land Change Modeler The goal of the video series is to provide quick-start references on a variety of the utilities and functionality within IDRISI, and in most cases, they will be 5-10 minutes in length. Clark Labs also hosts a video of a keynote presentation made by its Director, Dr. J. Ronald Eastman, on geotemporal analysis. This 45 minute video provides an in-depth exploration of the analysis of image time series data, and in particular, the use of the tools within IDRISI's Earth Trends Modeler application. Learn more.
